Funny story. I got my first DL in Pennsylvania when I was 16. They were paper with no picture then. What was special was if you were under 18 it had red ink, and over 18 it had green. The red ink meant you were restricted from driving after midnight. (There was always a mass exodus at high school parties at about 11:45.) That summer, when I visited my family's ranch in Wyoming, I got my Wyoming DL, and it had no restrictions. (I spent my summers in Wyoming and went to school in PA.) So the story is about when my friends and I went to a Grateful Dead concert at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. I was the designated driver of my friend's mom's Oldsmobile Station Wagon, as I could legally drive after midnight. On the way home at about 12:30 AM, about a half mile from the City Line, I ran a red light on Belmont Avenue. There was no one around, just a cop. I pulled over and got out of the car to talk to them instead of waiting. When I showed him my Wyoming DL, the cop said, "Do they have traffic lights in Wyoming?" I said "Yes, there is one about 90 miles away." He looked at the posse of kids in the car and determined I was Ok and let me go with a warning.

Hello again, Brad.
That's a pretty funny story. That said, as much as people joke that WY would have no stop lights, I'm always impressed at the lengths they go to mount signal heads down low on the pole to make the signal more visible. It's the kind of thoughtful treatment you tend to see in California or Arizona.

Or oddly enough- how about US-395 down in Ridgecrest where Caltrans went a bit odd putting additional traffic lights up high just for trucks in addition to making the street signs incredibly tiny that you could barley see them? It just makes me gag but thankfully Caltrans is slowly getting around to updating a few signals over there (one on CA-178 is already replaced near Ridgecrest Heights) but for now you’re stuck with this craziness!
