The UK uses Yards for distance on roadsigns while US uses Feet. Given that football 🏈 is a popular sport with a 100 yard field wouldn't Yards also make sense to use on US signs? (It also allows for smaller numbers)

According to a Metrification UK web site (source: metrication.uk/transport/roads/distance-signs/), they indicate that since yards are similar to meters, it's a baby step to adopt metric. For reasons I don't yet understand, transportation in the U.S. is deeply committed to US Customary units.

For reasons I don't yet understand, transportation in the U.S. is deeply committed to US Customary units. Critical Mass. There are too many people that don't care if we are the only country using Imperial measurements, and most would not like the conversion. The UK still uses Miles and MPH, even if everything else is metric.
